it. Via OPC UA you can transfer very large
amounts of data as well as image data and
not just individual parameters, as is possible
via PLC controls. There is basically no getting
around OPC UA in the future. We are thus set
One can get the impression here that
you are revolutionizing the entire production
process with your system,
because with the technology you are
going far beyond the detection and ejection
of foreign bodies by helping companies
with a large amount of data at a
very early stage of the Quality control to
make informed decisions?
You see that quite correctly. That has always
been our vision since INSORT was founded
and corresponds to our long-term strategic
direction. Nowadays you have many stations
along a French fries line where our technology
is used. From the incoming goods inspection
to the sorting of the whole potato to the
sorting of the finished French fries. In addition,
residual peel values for steam peeling
control, dry matter and fat for controlling
deep fryers are measured inline and in real
time. That is already a reality. The next steps
are in the direction of the “Smart Factory of
the Future”. We are working very consistently
on this, now also through partnerships with

turnkey line providers in potato processing.
These are all factors where we believe we are
well positioned for the future.
What is your strategy?
In the pioneering phase, we focused on the
potato industry for a long time. We made a
name for ourselves there. Then we decided
that we needed a second strategic market
segment and founded branches in the USA
and Canada in order to also establish a mainstay
in the nut and dried fruit industry. As
in the potato industry, we first built unique
selling points and then really boosted market
growth. The other segment is the frozen
food segment, which is now getting off to a
good start with the latest developments. We
also want to venture into the meat segment,
where we are still at the very beginning.
Would you like to explain the market
opportunities in the meat sector a little?
On the one hand, this goes in the direction of
inline measurement of fat, protein and other
parameters, and on the other hand, foreign
body detection. This is a big problem
because the plastic boxes in the meat industry
are mostly red and therefore conventional
detection with color cameras is not possible.
We have already proven several times that we
are extremely efficient there. The prototype
designs of the machines are ready and the
first orders are pending.
That sounds like a good perspective. But
it is certainly not that easy to serve such
I agree with you. It is certainly a challenge to
develop solutions for very different problems
and to serve different sales channels at the
same time. But we are happy to face this task.
What participation in trade fairs are you
We will certainly be loyal to Anuga FoodTec
in April 2022, and also to Interpom in November
2021. Otherwise, we are more likely to be
found at smaller specialist events. Digital formats
cannot replace face-to-face fairs.
Thank you very much.
